Restructuring with relocation of production site

Securing the future. With sense, transparency and respect.

Situation and problem

The transition concerned a historical production site running parallel to the main one. The site was functional, well organized, enhanced by innovative metalworking and packaging production technologies, dedicated to a growing business segment. The location of the site was near a prestigious residential centre in an environmentally protected context. The operations-analysis and projection into the medium/long-term future had revealed important reasons for relocating activities to the main production facility.

Challenge and Actions

With the move, significant efficiency/redundancy gains were to be realized, reduction of internal handling/transport of goods, synergies between metal and plastic component production with reduced set-up times, and increased staff interoperability. The first phase was the detailed production/logistics planning of the new layout, flows, shopfloor. One of the crucial points was the socially acceptable reallocation and organization of personnel between the old and new site. The business also required the maintenance of the delivery service to international customers without interruption through extraordinary demand planning. All this was achieved with transparent communication, a respectful action plan and a tight schedule.

Results

Increased profitability and overall efficiency. Basis for further growth in the future. Internal acceptance of the strategic necessity of this change with unions and workforce.
